A
WASP interacting protein (see WASP), with homology to other WASP interacting
proteins (WIP). CR16 is a 67 kDa protein by SDS-PAGE, whose cDNA predicts
a protein of only 49 kDa (Ho
et al, 2001),
the difference being attributable to the high proline content. CR16 is
expressed in the brain and is localised at the growth cone tips with N-WASP, and
binds both G- and F-actin in vitro (Martinez-Quiles
et al, 2001).
The interaction of WASP and CR16 is mediated through WASP's WH1 domain in the
N-terminus and the C-terminus of CR16 in the exon 7 encoding
region. Throughout the CR16 sequence the many proline-rich
regions may be bound by SH3 domains of a host of interacting proteins. CR16
contains a VH (verprolin homology) domain but it is not yet clear if this is the
actin-binding region.
