Many
enzymes of the glycolytic pathway have been found to bind the actin cytoskeleton
(see Aldolase, Phosphofructokinase) (Knull
et al, 1992). Several observations make it
likely that glucokinase is amongst them. The enzyme co-localizes with
actin (Murata et al, 1997), glucokinase is released from permeabilized cells upon treatment with
cytochalasin and phalloidin (Agius &
Peak, 1993), and the yeast homolog has been
reported to bind actin by the yeast-two hybrid method (Amberg
et al, 1995).
