This is a
microaeophilic, free-living, freshwater, amoeboflagellate that lacks
mitochondria but has hydrogenosomes instead (Broer
et al, 1990). Despite the lack of
mitochondria Psalteriomonas belongs to the Heterolobosea
probably in Schizopyrenida with Heteramoeba, Naegleria and
Vahlkampfia.
