Not much known about
the genus and there is only one species so far identified. The
first Rosculus ithacus was isolated from the rectum of a european grass
snake (Natrix natrix), and subsequently it was claimed to have been
discovered in Cambridge, England in a river and a ditch (Page,
1974), and on maize and a human throat in
North America (Page, 1988).
