Plant Cytokinesis

Plant cytokinesis differs significantly from that of animal cells in that instead of forming a contractile ring, plant cells divide by the formation of cross walls between the two daughter cells (Field et al, 1999).  New cell wall material is brought to the centre in vesicles by the microtubule system forming the phragmoplast a complex organelle consisting of both microtubules and actin filaments.
