Histidine rich protein II

A pH sensitive actin and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate binding protein from Plasmodium falciparum (Benedetti et al, 2003). Hrp II binds F-actin at pH 6.0 but not at pH 7.5, in a manner reminiscent of ADF/Cofilin as at pH 7.5 Hrp II binds G-actin and prevents its sedimentation. Hrp II is like hisactophilin and has 28% homology but this is due to the fact that both proteins contain so much histidine.
